You can get a better deal- usually when the Yen is 125 to the dollar or more, but you are better off buying online in the US.

I lived in Tokyo for 2 years and thought I was going to get a great deal on electronics. Until I realized that everything was in Japanese and getting the features I wanted was almost impossible. Not to mention that the instructions, keyboard, operating software, labels, etc are all in Japanese.

My mom came over to visit and thought she would get a great deal on a camera. I took her to akiabara so she could look at one. She picked it up and said “Where is the power button? It’s all in Japanese!!”

    No duh.
People take English for granted and forget that not everything is in English.

I would not recommend buying anything directly from Japan unless you are fluent in Japanese – and if you are fluent in Japanese then you could just google for a place to buy stuff. saintnick@sbcglobal.net
